Nostalgia, discovery, and escape – the charming “hotel” in the Asiago Plateau
When we were little, hardly any of us liked school, but now that we’re grown, we smile thinking of primary and secondary school, with pleasant nostalgia for those days. This is how it happened: driving along the road with a beautiful view, we saw a striking building from the 1920s, with a courtyard looming over its tight circle, two linden trees and a battered sign reading “community school”. As the locals told us stories of their childhoods, it felt like we could hear the ruckus of the school children and the cries of joy at the end of the war… It was perfect for our dream to have a maison d’hôtes: a charming and romantic “guest house” in an area full of things to see, taste and love: that’s how it was born. La Scuola Guesthouse di Lusiana, on the Seven Villages Plateau (“Altopiano dei Sette Comuni”) between Marostica and Asiago.
We wanted to keep the feel of an old school, and giving a theme to each room seemed inevitable and fun. The themes couldn’t be casual, and had to reflect this region, and, of course, bring the guests back in time. That’s how we chose Geography, History and Letters, Arithmetic and Science. We also wanted one theme to be Teacher. We heard stories that varied, some saying for a short time and others for a longer time, that a teacher slept in the so-called “granaro” , the mansard…
A story of sustainability
Many things brought us here – family and professional experiences, personal passion and above all a desire to create a sustainable venture – both financially and for an area that we love.
